Maintaining Protected Paintwork: Best Practices

Once your vehicle is protected with PPF or a ceramic coating, maintenance becomes easier — but a few good habits make the difference between paint that looks good and paint that looks new for years.

Wait before the first wash

After a fresh PPF installation, allow the film time to fully cure before washing — typically about a week. Your installer will give exact guidance for your vehicle. During this period, avoid pressure washing freshly applied edges.

Wash the right way

• Use a pH-neutral car shampoo, never household detergents
• Adopt the two-bucket method to avoid dragging grit across the surface
• Use soft microfibre wash media and dry with a clean microfibre towel
• Where possible, avoid harsh automatic brush car washes

Deal with contaminants quickly

Bird droppings, tree sap, and bug residue are acidic and should be removed promptly. On protected surfaces they’re far less likely to cause permanent damage, but quick attention keeps the finish pristine.

Periodic inspection

Check high-impact areas — the front bumper, bonnet edge, and mirrors — from time to time. Quality film is self-healing for light marks, and any genuine concerns can be addressed during routine servicing.

Keep coatings topped up

If your vehicle has a ceramic coating over the paint or film, an occasional maintenance product helps sustain hydrophobic performance and gloss between professional services.
